Juneteenth is a time to celebrate freedom, reflect on how far our nation has come, and recommit to the work that needs to be done to remove discrimination and exclusion from society. Over 46 States and DC celebrate Emancipation Day which observes the end of slavery in the U.S.
News of the Emancipation Proclamation of January 1, 1983 did not reach Texas until 2.5 years later, on June 19, 1965. Union Major General Gordon Granger’s announcement in Galveston, Texas, freed 250,000 human beings living in slavery. No one can change or improve the past, nor can we make the best better. But we can all take collective and individual action and play a part in ending modern-day slavery with over 40 million humans living in slavery right now. (See Global Slavery Index). Let us all keep working to build a more equitable and just world without barriers to justice, achievement, progress, and opportunity.
Why is this day important? It is a day to explore how we are separate from nothing. On this day, we see We Are All One with each other. It is a day to talk about living in Oneness in practical ways, to revere and nurture life as the prime value. This day calls us to serve life first, to preserve humanity and all of life’s diversity. What an incredible transformation our precious planet will make when we realize our global unity and learn to respect our awesome, beautiful diversity.
Celebrate Juneteenth by finding ways to celebrate freedom and seek solutions with the values of diversity and inclusion which include respect and equality for all people. Recognize this day with a unity in which the problems which face humanity today can be solved. Now is the time to give up psychological positions of all kinds that cause people to take separate sides. Let us move linked together to a new level of global unity — for that is just what we are; one planet, one world, one human family of diversity, beauty and splendor.
Inclusion comes into being when an individual understands humanity’s true nature as consciousness. This human awareness is the one thing we all have in common. When we experience the whole, we see that we are each other. The all is contained within the one. The realization of humanity’s true essential nature as consciousness is the only bridge connecting us all. Inclusivity helps lead us toward the reality of our oneness because everyone is included. When all is said and done, out of many we are one!
